Execellent. Either average or below avearge temps for the whole winter - how long is it since we've seen that?!

An excellent forecast - many thanks to all.

Just a small question from my small, thin head!! When it says, '.....an upward trend in temperatures is expected in January with temperatures still close to average but generally slightly above the norm...', does that refer to the temperatures from the late 70's to now or do they refer to records going back further?

Any replies gratefully received. ;)

Kind regards,

Meteorologically muddled Mike.

Quoted from the forecast page itself:

The average figures you see on the forecast are not the standard 1971 to 2000 figures you may often see, instead they are rolling averages, currently from the period 1980-2003.

It's fairly similar to the 71-00 average though..

The good news keep coming. Net weather was the first to predict a below average December and they continue to do so with the Met Office joining at last. The most encouraging thing though is that even January doesn't look particularly mild especially if you think on recent years!

Also, really good to have a possibility for a cold February too - nothing worse than an early Spring!

Well that looks like an average winter! I would be absolutely delighted if that came off. Will feel like a big freeze compared to the dross of the last 2 winters.
