From the online Mail paper.

A perfect 10' circle of ice in the River Otter.

I'd never heard of such a thing.

"Ice circles are known to appear in the Arctic, Scandinavia and Canada,

but this is thought to be the first seen in Britain.

They occur at bends in the river where the accelerating water creates a force called 'rotational shear', which breaks off a chunk of ice and twists it around.

As the disc rotates, it grinds against surrounding ice - smoothing into a perfect circle."

This is a few lines from the paper article about how they come to be. :)

This 10' one in Devon was rotating 360º every 4 mins, 10 secs.

If that occured in the past, it would be put down to the gods or ghosts :)

Its really amazing how mother nature comes up with some things!

PS- I don't think thier dog droppings- i think they are just where the ground has been cut up by animals feet!

Thanks for posting this! :o :o I saw this online the other day and was meaning to post this aswell but then went and forgot! lol. This is a better article than i saw anyway.

Its amazing and very interesting as it formed on the same river that runs about 50 meters behind my house! although several miles upstream from here.

Just as a side note the coldest it got down to around here -9c and a bit below in some places on Tuesday night last week.

Id love to see one myself.
