WEATHER ALERT

THIS IS AND ADVANCED ALERT FOR SEVERE WEATHER

Category: Level 2 Warning

Weather type: Snow and gales

Affecting: Whole UK

Date Valid For:Sunday 22nd 13:00- Saturday 28th 00:00

Discussion:Today (22nd), a brisk Northerly will start up in Northern areas, with snow showers for Northern and Eastern Scotland, aswell as NE England, giving accumulations of several centimetres in NE Scotland, and perhaps a centimetre or two in the other areas mentioned. Through the day and into Monday, wintry showers will spread down the East coast, as far as Kent, with perhaps a light dusting of snow for higher areas.

On Tuesday, we expect a cold front to push South accross the whole country, with much colder air following, with Northerly gales. There may be some snow from the front (the back edge) particularly over high ground, but this is unlikely to be significant. Following behind the front will be wintry showers, turning to snow in Scotland at all levels. There could be some light accumulations here.

On Wednesday, snow showers will spread to Eastern areas also, with possible settling & drifting in strong winds. Snow shower continuing in the North, with further accumulations.

On Thursday, we are watching a disturbance that is due to cross Western UK, possibly bringing heavy snow and gales, with blizzard conditions, to Wales and the West country. To the East, we expect snow showers to persist, and the same applies to the North, with further accumulations for some.

On Friday there is a possibility of more widespread snow showers as winds turn more North Easterly, along with the chance of a few troughs. Further accumulations possible for some.

On Saturday, it looks like there could be further snow showers, becoming confined to the East.

Stay safe, dont risk travelling if dangerous, and keep up to date with developments on net-weather or with the met office.

Confidence Level: (60-70%)

Note: This alert should be considered a guide and we strongly recommend you stay tuned to the Met-Office for further warnings and updates.

Expect further updates as and when needed.
