From a warm January day, with typically oppressive sun, and a typically gusty northerly. Being the south coast, it was quite sheltered, with the odd gust making it down.

It's not the most brilliant scenery you will see, but the beauty lies in its accessibility. You can indulge yourself in a fair bit of walking, swimming, snorkelling, catching crays or gathering green lipped mussels. But the road-end lies about 25 minutes drive from the NZ parliament buildings. Why so few people enjoying this? Come on guys.

The water, being on the south coast, is quite cold, but it swimmable. Would have been about 17C at this time of year.

On a clear day in winter you can see right across to the staggering snowcapped Kaikoura ranges, reaching about 2800m. In summer the glare is usually too much.

It's a seal haul-out from about May, so I will head down again and see if the seals will allow me to photograph them.
