flash flooding here around 3pm till around 6pm,

roundabouts and junctions became gridlocked around 5pm. around 30 to 40 mm I worked out fell no idea how much in total as it was over such a narrow area that no near by weather stations picked it up.

cause thier quite a lot of steep hills etc the water was running down the road and collecting at the round about at the bottom.

water was pouring from the man holes covers etc, 6 miles away where I live bone dry.

took me 20 mins to drive what should take 2 mins and the bus took over 30 mins on the same stretch.

the heavens just opened and it hardly moved at all for 2 or 3 hrs the rain clouds just sat over stornoway as thier was little or no wind.

as far as I was aware no weather warnings issued but for such a localized area would they issue one?

below is attacted radar from netweather extra.

sadly I didn't have my camrea with me to take photos

that's how localized it was, that weather station is 10 mins down the road it was dry, it was such a localized event it was unreal. the rainfall feel a very small no more then a couple miles wide radius I really wish I had my camrea with me!

thanks anyway Phil.

Right a little late with this update from the local newspaper.

2-3pm 7.0mm

3-4pm 10.8mm

4-5pm 16.6 mm

5-6pm 9.4 mm

Total 44.8 mm

The above was taken from the castle grounds rain gauge.

44.8mm more the half the average for the whole month of july.

which beats unofficially 40.1 mm recorded at Stornoway airport july 12th 1939. despite it being unofficial a met office spoke man stated that it was indeed a record.

hopefully some photos to follow

the above information taken from the Stornoway gazette
