Nowcasts' give thunderstorm early warning

newscientist.com — A technique that borrows ideas from cyclone prediction will soon be used in Australia to better forecast the movement of thunderstorms.

Use IE7 or IE8, bab. Only last night I added to my storm sig and for some strange reason it encoded itself.

So this afternoon, I re-added all of it.

Paul or Karl should be able to help with all smiley/graphic issues. I'll PM both for you if you wish.

Phil.

Yes please Phil :-)
Sounds like a good technique. My technique for predicting where a thunderstorm is headed an hour in advance, is by looking at the airflow direction and then using common sense as to where it is going head.

Not sure if it would be as needed in this country than in Australia, since the storms there are lethal and far more frequent in the warmer seasons. Not only that, but the development of storms and storm motion, I would imagine, are quite different over there than they are here, so I suppose using this technique would be alot more useful there.
Hi weather09.:-)

I usually nowcast with the rain radar lol There's still a lot I don't understand regards thunderstorm forecasting.I'd love to be able to understand those skewT charts but I just dont get it lol.

They say that Thunderstorms are so hard to forecast just as hard as forecasting snow events.
