Weather

A rather cloudy day with showery outbreaks of rain, heaviest and most frequent across the eastern fells. Drier in the west with the best of the brightness. The showers will fall as snow above 800m.

Moderate or good falling poor or very poor in showers.

Extensive above 700m, patches to 300m

Maximum winds above 500m

North or Northeast at 20mph or less

Weather

Early mist and fog patches gradually clearing to leave a mainly fine day with some good sunny spells. However, cloud, above the summits, will increase through the afternoon.

Visibility

Excellent but poor with fog patches in the valleys at first.

Hill fog

Generally small amounts below summit level although a low level mist and fog may lift to give a periods below 300m for a time during the morning.

Maximum winds above 500m

Variable 15mph or less becoming southerly at 25mph.

Temperature

Valleys Minus 1 Celsius rising to plus 7 Celsius. 900 m Plus 2 Celsius. Freezing level Around 1000m but frozen surfaces expected down to low levels during the morning. <h3 style="display: none;" class="optionalSubHeading">Outlook</h3>

Tuesday

Cloudy with outbreaks of mainly light rain but brighter drier conditions reaching western fells by mid-morning and spreading east through the morning to leave sunny spells and isolated showers for the afternoon. Fresh or strong southwesterly winds veering westerly and decreasing. Freezing level above the summits.

Wednesday

Mainly dry with long sunny spells. Cloud increasing above the summits in the west towards dusk. Strengthening southerly winds. Freezing level above the summits.

Thursday

Generally cloudy and wet with persistent and at times heavy rain through the morning. However brighter, drier conditions edge northeast through the afternoon. Strong to gale force southeasterly winds easing. Freezing level expected to be above the summits.
