Up to September, 1929 had been a very dry year for England and Wales with just 63% of the expected January-September rainfall. October saw a turnaround and the last three months and especially November and December were complete washouts. They were so wet that the last 3 months contributed to 56% of the rainfall total for 1929, compare that to the first three months of 1929 which contributed only 10%

November 1929 is the 4th wettest November on record for England and Wales

December 1929 is the 6th wettest December on record for England and Wales

This prompted me to have a look at the local rainfall in 1929. Buxton recorded 647mm ( 25.47") from October-December and only 548mm ( 21.58") in the fist 9 months of the year. Linacre resevoir near Chesterfield recorded 448mm

( 17.63" ) from October-December and 347mm (13.67") in the first 9 months.

Based on the average rainfall differential between here and Buxton this would indicate a fall of around 540mm at my current site in Oct'-Dec' 1929, comparable with 2000 when I recorded 585mm over the same 3 months and which stands as the wettest 3 month period by some margin.
