Hi everyone, just thought I would do this for a bit of fun. Sorry mods I looked around but couldn't see anywhere else to put this move it if you like.

So every week I will pick a random location anywhere in the UK or Ireland.

This week its Shetland I found a website that has 4 weather stations updating every hour so that I can check later.

What you have to forecast is,

Friday 4th December,

Highest Temperature

Lowest Temperature

Max wind speed

And that's for all day on Friday no exact time.

You can use any charts or forecasting websites. Just post below what you think it will be. The deadline will be on Thursday night. Anyone can take part have fun.

hi W

I just tried to send this as a pm but you are unable to receive?

hope you don't mind me posting this in public?

hi

Nice to see someone re start this idea. I did it for a couple of years and it went well much of the time.

If I could make a suggestion?

At the moment you have no additional or subtracted marks for the date people post their forecast in.

Obviously the nearer to the cut off then, in theory at least, the more accurate should be the forecast. Perhaps giving a sliding scale as I used to would make for additional interest.

I hope you keep it going.

regards

John

Hi John,

Yeah its fine posting it up here I will check my PM box might be full :D

I have set up the marking for the forecasts last night but I suppose it would be wise to post them up,

Here they are,

Points,

10 for having all predictions correct.

7 for having 2 predictions correct.

5 for having 1 prediction correct.

4 for getting 2 or 3 slightly correct.

2 for getting 1 slightly correct.

1 for trying.

What do you think? Any good?

hi W

No problem with what you have set up-and its always a good idea to have the rules laid out clearly for everyone.

What I was aiming at was that the further away from T+00 you are the less probability you have of getting the right answer?

You started on 1 Dec for 4th; 72 hours away

on that day 5 entered

the next day 5 entered

today, so far, 1 has entered.

Award extra marks for at T+72, less for T+48 and 24?

say +10 for T+72

+5 for T+48 and 1 for T+24

just a suggestion.

good luck with it anyway-I hope more join in-it does help getting a better understanding of the models.

Thanks John,

Its all coming back to me about how you used to do it. I've put down on how many extra points people get if they enter early.
