Currently a huge fire across Marsden moor, looks spectacular/serious even from here ten miles away. Just wondered if anyone else locally can see it ?

Can't see any smoke over that way but then it's dark and cloudy!

The rain finally reached here 10 mins ago so should be with you within the hour and that should dampen things down a bit.

I remember a big one over at Blackstone edge a couple of years back and the plume from that got as far as M/cr airport!!

There was also a big fire at Dovestones when I was up there on Sat evening, it looked like a lava field at night! Amazing to see but I do worry about the impact it's going to have on wildlife, especially at this time of year :)

They do do 'controlled burns' on the grouse moor behind us to bring on new green for the young birds. In fact 'Midgeley Moor' (up above us) was a Celtic heather moor and they'd burn it to feed the cattle on the new green over spring......don't think they do that any more.....
