Last Friday I was down in Hebden (waiting for my Curry) and I spotted 9 Swallows feeding high above the river. I guess they were taking a pause on their way north.

My earliest siting (in this location) was April 16th back in 2003.

Anyone else had 'early Swallows' or are they 'on time' where you are?

I saw my first here on the telephone wires on Saturday 3rd April. I have since quite a few with groups of half a dozen or so regularly flying around. It seems earlier than the last few years but my earliest ever sighting was March 23 but quite often it's been in the last week of March.

Makes me wonder whether it is a lack of food in Africa that sends them off early or a glut of food in the Med (which had a mild winter?). Still seems a bit cold here TBH.

No swallows here yet but may see them this weekend if we get a warm south wind to help them fly north . Just their normal time if this is the case.

First swallow arrived this morning in the garage so car will have to stay outside for the summer now. Still cold this morning at 3c so probably not a lot of insects to feed on. Bang on their normal arrival date.

Saw a couple of Swallows at work yesterday, I think it's about usual timing for around here.

So far, we've had a total of 4 fly into the house through the open back door — presumably looking for a nesting site. First one appeared on the 22 April, so similar to you guys.

I saw those 9 early on and now? well they appear very thin on the ground and they (along with the Martin's) should be here in numbers by now?

EDIT: that said , just popped out for a Pipe and saw a Swift
