93°F Heatwave To Hit Uk On Tuesday

Ok, don't know if anyone has seen this but another stupid weather headline from The Sun, claiming a heatwave next week...Maybe 30C in London at the most Monday/Tues.

Wow, no idea how they came up with that... but the Tuesday after that.. now that is a possibility..

so they reckon 93°F (34°C). well in some favoured sun spots of London and SE i would say that temp was already achieved.

i know my area was possibly higher than the figure quoted below, down the road in Gravesend on the 9th

The hottest UK temperature so far this year is 89F (31.7°C) in Gravesend, Kent, on 9th July.

Isn't it technically impossible for a heatwave to occur on one day, with heatwave being a long period of hot weather...

Definately agree! a rotten excuse for a paper.. along with NOTW and the Daily Mail..

Another stupid report really making up a lot of rubbish.. 93F is about 34C and no one is forecasting that for Tuesday. Not even the Met Office who they falsely claim are predicting this. Then they make other statements in the most mis-leading way.

For example, the 2nd sentence:

The forecast comes as world weather experts revealed last month was the the hottest June ever recorded.

For a start it would help if they got their punctuation correct

For the UK this was not nearly the hottest June on record. They may have been referring to the world as a whole, but they state it in the most mis-leading way. and most people believe them looking at the comments... IMO it shouldn't be allowed to make up stories like this.

It's often not the Met Office that make people think there not very good at forecasting, just false stories made up by media like this.

I almost want to sign up to comment how ridiculous it is and that the MetO and no one else expects nearly 34C this Tuesday! maybe 28-29C but not 34C

Although of course I shouldn't expect anything better from the Sun..

Indeed have they completely forgotten January and February, and it was cool in March and much of May here to.

34c is impossible on Monday, even 30c is very unlikely, maybe a 28/29c but GFS is downgrading temperatures every run.

There is an article in todays Guardian saying globally last month was the hottest June recorded. It also says that according to NOAA it was the 304th consecutive month with a combined global land and surface temperature above the 20th century average.

A UK heatwave is classified as two consecutive days where the temperature reaches 30C or more, and the intervening night falls no lower than 17C.

So yes, a heatwave does need two days to be a valid heatwave.

Yes, the Sun is being misleading, whether deliberately or out of poor understanding/research, either way it's a poor headline. According to NCDC, June was the warmest on record globally, but it was a good 2C or more off being the warmest on record anywhere in the British Isles.

I have toured the entire United Kingdom on the Sun's £9.50 holidays (I earn less than the minimum wage as I am a company owner/director in a poor sector, traditional forestry). I would not have had holidays for the past couple of years without the Sun.

The forecast is perfect and they are always right.

Note to the editor of the Sun... There I have done my bit, I now await Internet execution.

TBH i really hope so, my cat has cancer and the hot weather makes him go out doors and well now its colder he stays indoors... so i hope it gets warmer... so he can go outside one last final time.
