    someone could maybe post model data so we can get some idea of the normal conditions, and the severe cold event differences.

    yes indeed, try yourself mate, Google and its amazing what comes up. GFS has South America output, simply click on it down the lhs, for averages try the Met O web site and South America-it really is almost as easy as being spoon fed!
