I'm currently in my second year at UEA studying for a BSc Meteorology and Oceanography.

We have been plotting tephigrams for a few weeks now, and learning how to indentify the LFC, LCL etc.

However, I know how to identify the LFC when Normad's point is below the temperature line, but how do you find it if Normad's point is above the temperature line?

The attached tephigram highlights things a bit clearer as to what I mean (taken from the Met Office)

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Having had a look at the University of Wyoming soundings pages, it appears that if the profile is saturated all the way up then the LFC = LCL?

Hey

I found the same: as " The Levelof Free Convection (LFC) is the first level atwhich the temperature of the parcel is greater than the temperature of theenvironment." LCL and LFC should be the same in our example.
