Strangely, in Lancaster there was a completely unforecast sunshine-and-showers interlude around the latter part of the afternoon, with some sun, some rain, and some distinctly large cumulus clouds.

I can report that the South Shields area has been grey, cold and drizzly all day, but with a north-easterly wind I'm not surprised at that.
