Moving onto May 27th Now and another relatively quiet day and once again the Northern Plains very quiet. A notable Outbreak occured in 2004 with a strong F3 Tornado in Kentucky which was on the ground for a little over 25 miles, thankfully no fatalities with this, there was also an F3 Tornado in Tennessee in the year 2000 again no fatalities with this Tornado which was on the ground for 17 Miles. Numbers like the previous day quite low at 71 Tornadoes over the 12 year period but some quite big hitters coming up in the next few days we will cover. Surprisingly once again Texas leading the way with the most Tornadoes with Oklahoma only registering a solitary Twister in 2001.

There have been 71 Tornadoes on the 27th May in the period 1999-2010 which works out at an average rounded up to 6 per day . The Largest rated F2 which occured in the States of Tennessee and Kentucky in the years 2000 & 2004 respectively.

Now onto May 28th and Surprisingly not that active seeing as the next couple of days are much more active. Strongest Tornadoes I could find were a pair of EF2's that hit Colorado in a Mini Outbreak for that State in 2001. The only other Mini Outbreaks days of note were in 2003 and 2004 in Illinois and South Dakota respectively. Once again not 1 single Tornado in the State of Oklahoma in the last 12 years and only 1 in Kansas which is very surprising. And only 6 Tornadoes in the last 5 years on this date. Thankfully no fatalities once again with this date. As you would expect at this time of the year though the Upper Mid West and High Plains all occupy the top 3 places as per the season moving northwards.

There have been 56 Tornadoes on the 28th May in the period 1999-2010 which works out at an average rounded up to 5 per day . The Largest rated F2 which occured in the State of Colorado in the years 2001

Now onto a day which always seems to fall nicely for Outbreaks and namely May 29th. Not only in great chasing areas but also incredibly photogenic Tornadoes as well. I have had the pleasure of chasing one of those days and getting hit with the infamous Aurora EF2 Wedge Tornado in 2008, the tornado of the day was in Kansas though near Beloit which was underneath a barbers pole updraught. The biggest outbreak day came in 2004 when no less than 78 Tornadoes touched down mainly across Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri. The 2008 outbreak had exactly half that number with 39 touchdowns this time mainly across Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. The 2004 Outbreak was the most severe though with a strong F4 Tornado in Missouri that was on the ground for 22 Miles and claimed the lives of 3 people, there was also two F3 Tornadoes in Kansas and one each in Missouri and Oklahoma. The 2008 outbreaks biggest tornadoes saw a pair of EF3's in Kansas with the more notable one on the ground for 55 Miles from North Central Kansas east north-eastwards into Nebraska. We are not done with the mini outbreaks though with 29 Tornadoes touching down in 2001, the strongest a pair of F3's in Colorado. Climatologically the Heartland of Tornado Alley faring best at this juncture of the year.

There have been 169 Tornadoes on the 29th May in the period 1999-2010 which works out at an average rounded up to 14 per day . The Largest rated F4 which occured in the State of Missouri in the year 2004

May 30th Surprisingly has almost the same amount of Tornadoes as the 29th so once again another very active day with 2004 once again producing no less than 82 Tornadoes across 12 States, 2008 was also very active once again a tad east in the Upper Mid West. Illinois and Indiana clear winners on this day which is what you would expect with such a great day 400-500 miles further west on the 29th. There was unfortunately 1 Fatality in the 2004 Outbreak when two F3 Tornadoes hit Indiana. Iowa takes 3rd spot suggesting the iowa, Illinois and Indiana Triangle are the hot spots for this day. Surprisingly none of the usual suspects make the top 5 spaces for this day.

There have been 168 Tornadoes on the 30th May in the period 1999-2010 which works out at an average of exactly 14 per day . The Largest rated F3 which occured in the State of Indiana in the year 2004

Finishing off May with the 31st and another healthy Tornado Number Day, 1st time every day has got in on the action as well. This day will be remembered by the Netweather Team for the fabulous Campo Tornado from 2010 which was on the ground for just under 20 minutes moving at 5mph :air_kiss: In Fact the areas affected are back to where they should be at the end of May barring no action in the Northern Plains where you would expect the season to be by now. There was only 1 mini outbreak day which was in 1999 which saw 22 Tornadoes touch down, this year also has the strongest Tornado in the last 12 years, that being an F3 In Colorado. Again only 1 Fatality was found and this related to an F2 Tornado in Tennessee in 2001.
