Until 1957, March 1938 was the warmest March on record with a CET of 9.1, for Scotland and Northern Ireland, it is the warmest March on record.

High pressure dominated the month further south and it was a very dry month, 10th driest March on record for England and Wales but further north and west, there was enough of an Atlantic influence to ensure it was not especially dry nor sunny even though it was very mild.

The warmest spell came around the 20th and 21st when maxima of 20+C was recorded.

20th: 21.4C at Rickmansworth

21st: 21.1C at Cambridge
