Tropical Depression 01W

The first tropical depression of the Western Pacific Typhoon Season of 2011 has quickly formed in the South China Sea off the east coast of Vietnam. Intensity is 25kts. The LLC quickly span up yesterday, enhanced by a northeasterly wind surge through the South China Sea. At the time of formation, convection was quite deep. However, easterly shear has increased and caused the convection to weaken and be displaced west of the LLC. 01W probably won't strengthen any further as it drifts slowly southwestward and should instead dissipate in a day or two.

01W has meandered and completed a small loop in the South China Sea. Continued shear has caused the system to degenerate into a remnant low. Redevelopment is not anticipated.
