Dan Corbett back in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc3LX2R1XM8&feature=youtu.be

There will be about 500mm in the ranges by then time this is over. Nelson Airport had 200mm today, its wettest day ever. In the ranges, about double that has fallen.

Meanwhile, although less than 100 miles away, there has been fewer than 2mm of rain in Wellington and Blenheim.

Good to see him back into it... Hopefully he's enjoying it and finding a change in the local climatic peculiarities interesting. I wonder how he's being received by the NZ public?

I met Dan at a Met. Society conference in November, found him to be very pleasant and enthusiastic. He should get a good reception.

The blocking that occurred at times to the east of New Zealand in December produced an extraordinary month, witrh wet zones in Fiordland and the Alps getting very small rainfalls, while Nelson City had its wettest month since the 1870s. Kotinga, a location near the town of Takaka in Golden Bay, had 1233mm rainfall in December, over half its annual average.
