A cooler night last night went down to 4.1C, currently 6.4C and rising. Clear skies.

The past week really has served to dispel the mild in winter=wet and windy. There has been suprising amounts of sunshine lately, including today (not here but it was glorious sunshine in Sheffield earlier)

We've had around 70 hours of sunshine in this part of the world already this month compared to the 1971-2000 average of 47 hours. Along with that rainfall is just 44% of normal so far.

44% rainfall, 145% sunshine and +1.0C on the temperature compared to average equals a very good month, though obviously for wintry weather it has been dire!

A max temp of 10.3C here today with sunshine during the morning giving way to thicker cloud during the afternoon.

Although another mild day today has been the first of the Christmas period with nothing other than cloudiness! Other days have all had some brightness/sunshine, drizzle and wind to make for interest!

This mild spell has been consistently cloudy/dull grey here, with a breeze at times and not so much at others. It even felt quite cold earlier under the grey skies and breeze.

Some parts of the country have been lucky with high ground disrupting/breaking the general cloud sheet moving in from the SW. Though I think here mild weather like this is more often than not cloudy in the winter, so I'm never too enthusiastic about it.

Another day of cloudy and damp weather, with no sunshine. Diurnal range very small, temps around 10c throughout.

Last December was very sunny here, this one no where near as sunny, clearly wind direction makes a huge difference.

Mild in winter usually is wet and windy though.. January 2008, January 2007 et al.
