here in the north-west region would only get 10-20mm of rain but nothing too significant out of this weather system. that is very bad for the drought effected areas. :( In fact there not gonna rain here until sunday apart from today. friday is drizzle but that doesnt count as anything at all.

Well it keeps changing from heavy sleet to wet snow up here in the Alnwick area, windy too. I imagine anywhere with a bit of elevation will have proper snow.

A strong NE wind has picked up in Cleadon associated with very heavy rain- temperatures dropping away rapidly.

I don't think this frontal system will bring any advance on sleet here though due to marginal temperatures and the winds off the North Sea. The brighter showery regime to the north of the front would have given greater chances of snow here.

The UKMO offers some chance of a sunshine-and-snow-showers setup for Saturday but I won't be convinced by it unless GFS/ECMWF jump on board.

Heavy wet snow here! Quite a rapid change, it was raining 10 minutes ago.

Edit: wow, very large flakes and settling on the grass! It's snowing horizontally too!

It's a bit sleety again now, and I can't see it settling on the wet ground here. It is nice to see it snowing though after such a pathetic winter!

It's turned out rather more potent than I expected so far- reports of accumulating snow inland at relatively low levels, and even here at Cleadon near the coast it has turned sleety with a temperature of 3.2C, some melting snowflakes being whipped around by the wind.

Tonight looks set to be the peak period for wintry precipitation when, judging by what's happened so far, inland parts stand a fair chance of seeing a covering although here near the coast it will probably remain sleety.

Lighter snow now, but the temperature is still just 1C. No accumulation, just puddles everywhere.

Contrary to what the radar is saying its actually dry for the moment here with only 2.2mm so far. Its actually not that cold either with the temperature holding at 9.6C. It just shows the difference a few miles makes.

Nothing of note here weather-wise at all. Radar shows it's raining but it's just drizzle hardly wetting the ground. Bad news for those needing rain in the drought regions further east and spouth.

Here in Workington it is mainly sunny, but it has become rather windy in the last hour or so.

Snow is covering everything now. Can't see out of my North East facing window as snow has totally obscured it! Don't worry for those of you further South, we had drizzle this morning with temps around 7 degrees. Wind will increase which in turn will lower temps and rain will turn quickly to snow.

Down to 0.5°C here, still no accumulation apart from a slight dusting on the grass. This has been the longest snow event of the winter even though it hasn't settled on the ground.

Well according the radar a whole lot of rain ahs passed here yet we've recorded 0 mm. Skies brightening as dry area opens again in the front to the north west of us. Overall a much better day than forecast.

Those of us in West and South Yorkshire look to get a pasting. Very heavy percipitation projected which will have no problem falling as snow right down to sea level. Anyone under the pink expect to wake up to several cm's if not more by morning, timing is perfect for something significant.

Hope so cheese. Absolutely nothing to talk about snow wise in Barnsley this winter.

Let's hope so, the precipitation looks bullish at the moment, but colder air is moving south, evident on WunderMap and my temperature is falling now. Fingers crossed for everyone (who wants snow!)

Well eventually South Yorkshire will get a pasting again. Missed out last time when a gap in the front formed as it moved south. Looking at the radar at the moment there isn't anything too suggest anything heavy for us. The front is fizzling out so unless it rebuilds in the next four hours or so it's going to be a no show.

Another storm in a teacup really for the NW. Started off with rain, this turning to sleet before clearing up, and now we have a lovely afternoon with warm sunshine to boot.
