11th -15th January 1895 England v Australia at Adelaide

Temperatures in the middle were as high as 155 degrees F

21st January 1902 England v Australia at Adelaide

Dust storm causes play to be abandoned on the 4th day

15th-17th June 1905 England v Australia at Lord's

10 days of rain preceded the match and a thunderstorm occurred each night during it.

19th August 1924 England v South Africa at the Oval

Thunderstorm flooded the ground after just 50 minutes of play on last day.

27th March 1933 New Zealand v England at Christchurch

Violent dust storm ended play at 3.30 on the last afternoon

6th to 10th July 1934 England v Australia at Old Trafford

Phenomenal heatwave throughout the match

30th November 1946 Australia v England at Brisbane

Violent storm flooded the ground on the second day with an 80mph gusts and giant hail

25th January 1952 Australia v West Indies at Sydney

Temperatures were 105 degrees F in the shade

10th -15th June 1954 England v Pakistan at Lord's

First three days were washed out

25th Feb -3rd March 1955 Australia v England at Sydney

The first 3 days were washed out because of continous heavy rain

10th August 1967 England v Pakistan at Trent Bridge

Nottingham Fire Brigade had to pump 100,000 gallons of water off the ground when it became flooded because of a thunderstorm

27th August 1968 England v Australia at the Oval

Thunderstorm flooded the ground and volunteers from the crowd helped make the ground fit again that lead to England winning the Test

3rd- 8th February 1990 Australia v Pakistan at Sydney

Cyclone Nancy dumps 20" of rain on Sydney and washes out 3 days of the Test Match

1st February 1991 England v Australia at Perth

The day before the Test, Perth recorded its highest ever maximum of 45.8C but by the next day it had dropped to 27C

11th December 1998 England v Australia at Adelaide

The first day was the hottest December for 11 years at Adelaide with 41C

26th December 1998 England v Australia at Melbourne

Christmas Day had been the hottest for 45 years at Melbourne but the first day of the Test (Boxing Day) was washed out because of a dramatic change in weather.

During the 3 Headingley Tests of 1978, 1979 and 1980, 19 hours and 28 mins was lost in 1978, 17 hours and 54 minutes in 1979 and 14 hours and 7 minutes was lost in 1980

There have been a few Test matches completely abandoned without a single ball being bowled because of the weather.

The Trent Bridge of 1926, England v Australia, there was only 50 minutes of play before heavy rain ended the match

There was one Test Match where the rest day was brought forward because of a solar eclipse.

16th February 1980, the second day of the Jubilee Test between India and England at Mumbai (Bombay) became a rest day because of an 87% solar eclipse that was to be visible from Mumbai.

Some games had a delayed start for the 11th of August 1999 solar eclipse in the UK. The Middlesex and New Zealand match was delayed until after the height of the eclipse.

A total solar eclipse occurred in the Caribbean a day before the start of the 4th Test between WI and England at Georgetown, Guyana. It was a 68% partial eclipse from Georgetown.

This has been mentioned before but 4 of the coldest winters of the 20th Century have coincided with England's tour of Australia: 1928-29, 1946-47, 1962-63, 1978-79. They also missed out on some other notable cold and snowy spells such as 1950-51, 1954-55, 1986-87, 1990-91. They toured Australia during the severe winter of 1894-95
