Well as we are now approaching the final Summer month I think it is time to start a thread looking at the coming Autumn and Winter.

Some people may think this too early, but we have similar threads for Spring/Summer in February blum.gif Additionally, it is around this sort of time that we can start to get a taste for what teleconnections are going to be in play as move into September and so on.

So what are peoples thoughts? If you want to post a forecast, go ahead! Equally it would be nice to hear what some are looking forward too/hoping for good.gif

aaaaaaa why are we talking about winter in the summerrofl.gif

It is also an Autumn thread as well.

I think with only 30 days till the start of Autumn it is not too early to discuss this.

It is hardly April! smile.png

One season at a time though eh?!!!!! I'll trim the title so we can at least get discussion of the bit between Summer and Winter out of the way first!

Well there is that, but you'll find this thread gets filled up soon enough and you wouldn't want it to get swamped going into October when the Winter crowd awaken from hibernation eh?? biggrin.png

tbh it's not that far off Autumn now... mentioned to the Mrs. yesterday that the some of the trees up here (Aberdeenshire) are already starting to get their autumn plumage.... granted it's only a few top leaves/branches here and there but if you look it is noticeable.... (p.s. i've just come out of hibernation... do i win a Barlett? blum.gif)

Well after last years lovely heat in september and early October I would be more than happy to see the same again and I wouldn't bet against it

Well after last years lovely heat in september and early October I would be more than happy to see the same again and I wouldn't bet against it

We'll see but I don't feel that it'll be quite the same as last year but yes there will be some warm days this autumn as you'd expect and after mostly disapointing summer it would be nice to have a lot of sunshine this autumn and for September to be warmer than the average but beyond September I and many others would be looking forward to more seasonal October weather with a few warm days, the first frosts and classic autumnal weather.

My ideal autumn would be:

September - Generally warm and sunny, some hot days, cool showery and fresh NWly spells, some active fronts, the first chill in the air.

October - Some warm days early, mostly cool, frosty, sunny, some fronts and winds, first snow at the end.

November - Cool, frosty, sunny, sometimes wet and windy, wintry at times, easterly at the end.

My thoughts on what this autumn could be like:

September - Unsettled early on, average to slightly below average temperatures, warmer later on.

October - Warm first half, cooler second half, very wet second half.

November - Wet, mild.

As long as Autumn doesn't go like last year and turn mainly mild and boring (especially last November) after yet another rubbish summer. I wouldn't bet against it though.

I wouldn't mind something like the end of September/start of October last year thrown in though.

Never!

Given where the jet has been recently, maybe a wet autumn?

We already have an Autumn thread (2 actually).

With that said...

September - Fairly cool and wet much like the past few months however like July and August the Jet will be more mobile so a more N/S split.

October - Increasingly settled end however high pressure will be building from the west so quite cool and potentially frosty.

November - Pretty cold for a November, plenty of northerlies and very dry and sunny

Essentially i expect any bouts of heat to be limited and a much drier but still cold end.

Link??

One is called 'only 7 weeks until..' and the other is called Gavin's Autumn forecast.

With that said having the actual name probably will make this one the default so i hope it gets pinned.

I expect Autumn to be drier, sunnier and warmer than average nationwide. Winter I'd divide thus... England/Wales drier and sunnier than average, with temps near normal, coldest in the SE. Scotland/N Ireland average rainfall and sunshine, but a little milder than normal. No significant lowland snowfalls anywhere in the UK and one of the highest absolute Winter mins of c.-11c.

Interesting.

Is that a hunch or actually based on something?

Bit of both. Sorry if it doesn't fit with what you, I or most others want, but thats how I see it.... not a million miles away from last Winter tbh.

No idea what will happen....though my hunch is that it will be a fairly average season.

A repeat of Sept-Nov 2011 would do for me though!

Polar....each to their own, i guess! I'd just like some decentish weather to be able do enjoy outdoor stuff that the summer has hindered. I'm happy to have a Nov 2010 repeat afterwards!

I am sorry apart from 3 weeks in this summer i actually thought we were permanently sitting in Autumn. A classic example of this would be last night sitting in the stand at riverbank stadium (hockey) at the olympics hmm flags blowing full blast.
