The is a line of cells from roughly Shrewsbury to just north of Bristol, then a gap of nothingness between Bristol & Taunton then more cells further south!

Yup, I'm in the gap of nothingness. Lol.

No more thunder here now but torrential rain!

Dont give up yet keep an eye on the couple of showers along the bottom of S Wales :)

Edit: Was an interesting shower thats passed over me now. Heard a few rumbles and saw 1 flash. Main activity seems to be pushing east now good luck!

O wow. A huge thunderstorm with loads of lightning somehow coming off a cold irish sea! Haha, in my dreams. I hate this area.

Nothing will happen around our parts today....wind direction all wrong and better CAPE is further south and east. Seriously I wouldn't get your hopes up in the slightest.

I might be lucky enough to catch something, maybe. Skies are so black to the north and seem to be edging near me. Could be my first storm for years!

Has anyone in the southeast spotted the trend?

The storms seem to be developing in a southeasterly direction with the focal point being London/Essex/Kent.

I just hope it keeps going this way, could make for an interesting afternoon!

Ohhhh, this is going to be a big 'un! The skies to the North and West are incredibly black, and the thunder is getting louder and more frequent.

Just seen my first flash, starting to rain as well.

SKYWARN UK HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR THE FOLLOWING REGIONS:

WALES

NORTHERN ENGLAND

MIDLANDS

EAST ANGLIA

SOUTHERN ENGLAND

IN EFFECT FROM 1130UTC UNTIL 2200UTC SATURDAY 25TH AUGUST 2012

WEAKLY SHEARED LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WITH SLIGHT TO MODERATE INSTABILITY AROUND THE WRAPPING OCCLUSION

THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF SEVERE WEATHER AFFECTING THE INDICATED REGIONS IN THE TIME PERIOD SPECIFIED. THREATS WITHIN THIS WATCH INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

HEAVY RAIN...LARGE HAIL...LIGHTNING...WEAK TORNADOES

DISCUSSION:

WHILST THERE IS ONLY MODERATE CONFIDENCE GIVEN MODEL OUTPUT, THERE EXISTS A POSSIBILITY OF A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM RISK THROUGH SATURDAY. A REPORT FROM SOUTH WALES AT 11Z HAS INCREASED THIS CONFIDENCE AND THUS SPOTTERS IN THE WATCH AREAS SHOULD BE ACTIVE. REASONABLE LAPSE RATES WILL DEVELOP GIVEN THE ADVECTION OF COOL AIR ALOFT ASSOCIATED WITH THE LOW, LEADING TO WIDESPREAD CONVECTION. THE STRONGEST SHOULD BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE WRAPPING OCCLUSION AND WHILST TOWERING CUMULUS AND CUMULONINBUS ARE DEVELOPING AT ANY POINT THROUGHOUT THE DAY, BEFORE THEY COLLAPSE OR CLUSTER. MAIN RISK IS THE POSSIBILITY OF LARGE HAIL, AS HIGHLIGHTED BY THE REPORT, THOUGH THERE REMAINS A POSSIBILITY OF HIGH RAINFALL AMOUNTS LEADING TO EXCESS SURFACE WATER AND FLASH FLOODING. THERE ALSO EXISTS A POSSIBILITY OF WEAK TORNADOES FROM WINDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE OCCLUSION FURTHER SOUTH IN THE WATCH AREAS. THIS WATCH MAY BE UPDATED OR UPGRADED. PLEASE MONITOR WEATHER AND TRAVEL INFO AS NECESSARY.

Looks like things re-developed as they moved south-east of here. Have been in this lull for at least an hour now...we have been a bit unlucky so far. Still time for lots more...as long as there things developing over Wales and Shropshire.

Had the most decent thunderstorm in a long time here. Very close lightning and loud thunder. And the rain was torrential. Storm rumbling off southwards now.
