The Ben Nevis weather site is showing snow on Tuesday

Ben Nevis is shown to have snow at highest of about 2,700ft

Gales on higher slopes will strengthen on Tuesday. It will also be cold with showers falling as snow above about 2,700ft. There will also be bursts of sun, and cloud will occasionally lift off the summit. On the summit, due to wind chill, it will feel as cold minus 17 Celsius in the afternoon.

Last season was a late starter for the skiers if I remember correctly, so here's hoping it will be better this year for them

It would have been nice if Scotland had joined in with the heat and sunshine that southern areas had but I suppose it's a nice ritual of autumnal weather to have wintryness on the munros. I'm still hoping for at least one more fairwell to summer before we experience other general autumnal weather types.

I doubt we'll see snow accumilating on the hills but there could be a dusting at the very top of Ben Nevis or Aonach Mor or if the showers could get further inland we could potentially see some wintryness on Ben Wyvis, the Monadhthliath, the Cairngorms and possibly the the highest peaks of the Glencoe hills and the mountains of Argyll and Breadalbane.

For the nearby Campsie Hills I think I'll have to wait until much later in the autumn at least to see a covering on the hills.

There was a covering down to 2000ft on Cairngorm during mid October last year and of course the first 20 days of December was on the wintry side with snow both on the low and high ground but the strong winds and stormy conditions was a big issue.

The beeb's 18:30 BBC 1 forecast has no word of snow for the mountains tomorrow so its a case of wait and see

It is exceptionally unusual to have deep snow in early September. One notable exception to this was 1976, when a storm during the first week of the month deposited large amounts on the Cairngorms. That said, snow in September is not unusual, albeit it is usually ephemeral.

Cairngorm Mountain are expecting snow showers according to their tweets. Should certainly be cold enough at the summits.

That seems to be an image from February 17th for some reason (rather than a live picture).

It was 0.3C on Aonach Mor at 10am (see link below), so the Ben Nevis summit plateau should be slightly below freezing, and showers are piling in from the west (there's currently a heavy squally rain shower here (just outside Glasgow), so I imagine it will see some snow today.

Not the first snow of the 'season', that fell and give a slight dusting on the summit area of Ben Macdui on Thursday 30th August. Not quite on the scale of last year's August blizzard which left drifts which persisted in some cases for almost two weeks, however it was another August with lying snowfall in the Cairngorms, the third in a row!

Which is truly remarkable given in the previous 67 years up to and including August 2009, new lying snow had been noted by Dr Adam Watson has occurring in August on only 8 occasions!

Reports of snow showers at altitude in Glencoe and Lochaber again this morning. Looks like a slight dusting on the Ben Nevis cam above.

-0.6C on the summit of Aonach Mor but as low as -1.9C further east on the summit of Cairn Gorm at 10am.
