10.4C to the 25th

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/cet_mean_est_2012

Yesterday was 10.8C Minimum today is 4.8C, while maxima are above 8C, so a drop to 10.2C is likely on tomorrows update.

After that, the 06z GFS has the CET around

10.0C to the 27th (4.5)

9.9C to the 28th (6.1)

9.8C to the 29th (7.2)

9.6C to the 30th (5.2)

9.6C to the 31st (8.4)

Sub 9.5C a good bet after corrections. Though if the GFS minima predictions are closer to reality than usual, low 9s is a possibility.

Currently I'd say 9.4C is the most likely final figure.

10.2C to the 26th

Last night provisionally came in at 0.5C, so tomorrow we will probably be sub 10C (although it maybe rounded up to 10.0C)

Today might be the coldest value since April 4th (3.8C)

Was just messing around and thought I'd create a little graph showing the temperature trends for here so far this month

2012 will be added to the list of sub 10s

CET to 27th - 10.0C - yesterday came in at 4.5C

Last night registered 1.8C (minima in most places away from the SE of the zone were probably before midnight).

Likely to be 9.6C or 9.7C before adjustments.

Back down to 9C in Sunny Sheffield. Last two days cancelling the very mild nights last week. May manage to sneak under 9C.

Its looking by the end of the month like we'll have recorded 5 months in the last 7 all at least 1.0C below the 1981-2010 average. You have to go back to 1969/70 for the last time when 5 months in 7 (actually 6 in that case) were below the most recent 30 year average.

October could end up being between 0 -1c here which would be the equivalent of a very cold UK winter month

Yes I've noticed the very low temperatures in Calagry in recent days - how normal have conditions been lately... I suspect it has been a notably cold spell for Canada. I visited Calgary in Oct 2010 and on the day I left on the the 20th it was 20 degrees...

In sunny Sheffield it looks like we will come in at 8.7C unless we have a heatwave today which is unlikely.

The thing with Calgary its not unusual for it to be +20c or -15c at this time of year. October can hang onto summer or winter can start early

Isn't Calgary capable of 20C in the depths of winter when a Chinook rolls into town? Or is it more like mid teens?

I read in my "Introduction To Atmosphere, Weather and Climate" textbook that Calgary can reach 21C even during January in westerly Chinook events. Calgary must surely be furthest north a temperature of 20C or higher can be experienced in December through February. Edited by Craig Evans

It has been a very traditional feeling October, apart from the shortlived mild spell around the 20th it has been consistently cool/average temperatures, with a showery start, settled dry middle with frosts on occasion, and a wetter chilly end. The only thing it has been devoid of is gales, yet another 'calm' October in this respect... Autumn 2012 as I have said before has been 'text book' - very traditional and this theme looks like continuing with November likely to be very much a late autumn/early winter type month rather than a mild tame affair.

9.3-9.5

Manley has the CET at 9.9C up to the 29th whereas Hadley had it at 9.8C which is unusual as Manley doesn't feature end of month adjustments? Perhaps Hadley will only feature a small adjustment this month?
