Weird Enormous Sun Halo

I took these shots of the din earlier today.

I thought them weird because of the sheer size of the halo , which took up 1/3 of the sky.

Sorry about the photos , they're from my mobile and it's the first time ive tried it.

Unless you had a wide-field setting selected (which doesn't appear to be the case) it's most likely to have been a 22° halo (i.e. 22° radius) as you'd be pushing it to get a 46° halo in view with that much field round it. Beautiful photos.

22° halo taken today in Cairns (with adequate solar protection of course):

They've actually come out quite well, sun halos can be tricky to capture, talking from experience!. It certainly looks like a 22º halo, they are quite common.
