That didn't seem too unusual for me at first glance, and I just had a look at the average for Chivenor and the 1981-2010 average for the first 3 months of the year is 212.5mm so that is pretty much bang on average.

Just had a look at the Camborne Jan-March average too, and it's 289mm so again pretty close to average (though actually a fraction below, not exceptionally wet like that paper or whatever reports).

It's more that last year started pretty dry, and many years since 2007 have started drier than average. I think which ever media source printed that needs to check it's facts, it's amazing/annoying how inaccurate certain areas of the media can be with the weather at times.

At home in East Devon we're currently on 17.6mm for the month so far, year to date total is 355.8mm

Those amounts seem unremarkable to me Gavin for Cornwall and Devon, a very wet month would deliver that. Edited by TonyH

70mm of rain this month and 298mm of rain this year.

You do all realise I hope that the moment anybody starts wittering about it being dry it's going to rain every day all day until October yes?

May is now the wettest month of the year so far with 99.7 mm up to 1800 g.m.t today; this makes it the wettest May here since 2009 which had 101.3 mm.

Looking at the radar echoes over the North Sea at the moment that could well be exceeded by tomorrow morning; the next in line is then May 2007 which recorded 110.3 mm.

In complete contrast to last May which was dry we,re now up to 88.5mm the wettest since 2009 when 92.8mm fell. Depending on whether we have heavy showers today we will pass that amount.  So far this year we're on 286.6mm. The average is 325.7mm so we're 88% of average.

I've just been updating some of my records and have discovered that the 12 month period ending in March 2013 was the wettest here since I began keeping records 50 years ago. The total rainfall was 1463.4 mm which is 137% of the 1981-2010 average and 21.2 mm more than the previous wettest 12 month period which began in September 2000.

No rain since the last post and we're in driest run since May 2012. According to the radar there are some showers to the north which brush past us to break this run. Otherwise it should stay dry here until Wednesday according to Netweathers GFS forecast while Thursday according to the Met office.

Rained the other Thursday so will only get 13 days. Feb/March remains the longest period here.
