just starting to snow in Loughborough, the wind has picked up big time and the radar shows a lot on the way if it stays from turning to rain

It was suprising how snowy it actually got here in Gateshead. I was expecting a non-event but the snow was heavy and lasted from about 11am till 5pm. It blew around in the wind and small drifts started to form.

After years of non-event frontal snowfalls (Dec 2008 and Mar 2006 notable exceptions) we have now had two this winter which have delivered the goods. It's still my least favourite type of snowfall as it usually gets washed away the next day.

50% of the snow cover lost by early this afternoon; the cover is now down to about 25% and only 10% on the tops where there was a lot of drifting.

There are several places here which haven't been free of snow since Jan' 13th.
