WEATHER ALERT 00019 UPDATED 23/6 at 0958

THIS IS AN ALERT FOR SEVERE WEATHER

Category: Level 3 Warning

Weather type: Heavy rain and gales

Affecting: All areas

Date Valid For: Tuesday 22nd June 1200 until Thursday 24th June 2000

Discussion: A deep area of low pressure is now tracking northeastwards across the UK, bringing bands of heavy rain ahead of it, and heavy, thundery and blustery showers behind it. Coupled with this, winds are set to strengthen across the south as it continues to sweep across the UK.

Heavy pulses of rain will continue to move Northwards across Northern Ireland and Scotland throughout the day. Localised flooding is a possiblity in some areas with the high rainfall totals.

Further south, some very heavy showers are likely to develop, possibly merging to give longer spells of heavy rain. There's the possiblity that these could lead to localised flooding also.

Winds have the potential to exceed 70mph across Southern parts of Wales and England. The Bristol and English Channels are most at risk of severe gales, possibly causing disruption to ferry services etc.

These winds will slowly transfer Northeastwards as the depression begins to sweep into the North Sea, but they should then begin to lose their intensity.

A further update will be issued if need be.

Confidence Level: 90%

Note: This alert should be considered a guide and we strongly recommend you stay tuned to the Met-Office for further warnings and updates.

Expect further updates as and when needed.
