Former invest 95L has been raised to TD 6 in the southern bay of campeche, Gulf of Mexico, but is highly likely to reach landfall on the Mexican shore within 12hrs given Westerly heading but current recon may provide data to raise to TS status prior.

Looks like a tropical storm to me, and RECON data seems to be pointing this way, we may get a special advisory soon making that upgrade.

Fernand strengthened to 45kts and is now moving inland. Just before landfall, some very deep convection exploded in the southwest quadrant of Fernand, and if this system just had another 12 hours over water I think it would have approached hurricane strength. However, now the system has moved across the coast, weakening will begin quickly as Fernand interacts with the mountains of Mexico. Flooding and mudslides are a real danger to this area over the coming few days as Fernand is quite a moisture laiden storm.

Actually had an eye on radar upon landfall, perhaps one for post-season analysis.

Fernand has weakened to a tropical depression, but it is still bringing heavy rains to eastern Mexico. The system's maximum sustained winds Monday decreased to near 35 mph, several hours after making landfall. The government of Veracruz state has advised its 7.7 million residents to stay home, and Gov. Javier Duarte suspended classes in the state to protect children from venturing out into winds and rain.

Fernand is centered about 50 miles south-southwest of Tuxpan and is moving northwest near 9 mph. The storm is expected to bring 4 to 8 inches of rain over parts of several states as it moved toward central Mexico
