How do you celebrate this famous event ? Or mourn summers passing ?

Respect the impending dark while giving thanks to the sunlight

There are two equinoxes every year – in September and March – when the sun shines directly on the equator and the length of day and night is nearly equal. Seasons are opposite on either side of the equator, so the equinox in September is also known as the "autumnal (fall) equinox" in the northern hemisphere. However, in the southern hemisphere, it's known as the "spring (vernal) equinox".

Apart from explaining to my son (upon whom it has little impression!) the significance of the date and what it means, it passes largely unnoticed for me as it seems no different to the dates around it as far as loss of daylight goes. I look forward to the end of BST when we lose a whole hour of an evening in one hit and it seems then like any last vestige of summer has finally been extinguished.
