hi captain surprised all the talk of downgrades etc not looking much different for us at present

Same here ... I'm going to take a break until later on when we will have actual buoy reports and then the land stations to give a better idea of how much it is deepening and its actual track, until then it's just guess work and speculation !

Trying to follow developments from work is difficult but there are a couple of weather related horse-racing bets today.

Deadly Sting (4.20 Aintree), its favourite but lets hope thats not a bad omen.

Global Warming (4.05 Wincanton), we all know thats a non-starter, so keep your money in your pocket. Cgh!

Just a bit of fun.

Stay safe,

Tom.

already very windy in my chimney

Gosh that's a phrase i've never heard before...

Very breezy here in SW London (Motspur /Raynes Park) The lovely silver birches and other varieties in our road are shaking nicely. My houseproud neighbour was sweeping up leaves "making room for the rest of them" he said Posted Image and I have taken the bins in ...

Spent an enjoyable afternoon watching a new presentation by a local amateur group of the story of the Rye Lifeboat disaster of 1928:

http://theatricaleastbourne.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/marys-boys-open-auditions-theatre.html

It contained many references and songs about the weather and the sea, in particular a song entitled 'there's a storm coming'. I wonder how they organised that?!!!! More on the Rye lifeboat disaster here:

http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/50521-the-1928-rye-lifeboat-disaster/

Whenever I am down that way I always visit the grave and memorial in The Church of The Holy Christ in Rye Harbour Road. Very poignant.

Well I have not had time to catch up on all the posts so I hope I haven't missed anything major. It's a lively afternoon here already with winds gusting to 38mph, stay safe everyone.Posted Image

The wind people are currently experiencing had nothing to do with the approaching storm.

That's what I thought JP. Even if it does track further south Kent is going to be getting a battering.

No it hasnt

The Met Office said 20-40mm (0.80-1.6 ins) of rain might fall within six to nine hours in the wettest areas.

It said the predicted storm - named St Jude after the patron saint of depression and lost causes, whose feast day is on Monday - was not one "you would see every year".

Met Office shipping forecast and gale warning for my area Wight

Wight
Gale warnings - Issued: 0948 UTC Sun 27 Oct

Southwesterly severe gale force 9 decreasing gale force 8 soon, increasing violent storm force 11 later

Shipping Forecast - Issued: 1030 UTC Sun 27 Oct Wind Southwest 7 to severe gale 9, becoming cyclonic severe gale 9 to violent storm 11 for a time, perhaps hurricane force 12 later. Sea State Rough or very rough. Weather Rain or squally showers. Visibility Moderate or poor.

Not sure when the next forecast is due out but I will be watching and hoping they downgrade that Violent Storm 11.

Never yet seen them far out on the shipping forecast though so not looking good for tomorrow morning.

I don't ever remember them giving a possible hurricane force 12 in the channel either. Sure it must have been sometime though.
