One or two light showers during the first half of yesterday evening but from about 2200 it became dry and mainly clear, though still with a moderate W breeze.

Clear before dawn but high and medium level cloud increased from the south west shortly after sunrise and the morning so far has been dry and mainly cloudy with a few bright intervals.

A line of large Cb visible on the northern horizon which I thought might be 40 miles or so away but which, when I looked on the NW radar, turned out to be to the north of Bradford, about 70-80 miles distant .

A dry day with sunny intervals, until around 1620 when showers moved in from the north west. At first the showers were light but culminated in a short but heavy shower around 1640-45 which began as rain, turned to sleet and ended with an intense burst of small hail which whitened the grass and then froze. The temperature fell from 4.3c before the shower to 2.6c during it.

5 1/2 hours of rain during the day - as forecasted. Dry for 6 hours then a further 5 hours of rain and still raining now - completely unforecasted even this afternoon. As a result, this afternoon's pitch inspection is now totally redundant. Makes one wonder what is the point of a forecast if they can't predict the basic principle of wet/dry at such close quarters.
