Temperatures mostly above average and often warm, although it never exceeded 24c, and the month's high reading was 23.4c 25th. There was no measurable rain from 16th to 25th a total of 9 days and the longest dry spell since last July (20 days). Nights were chilly at times, the lowest being 3.5c 22nd

26th – 28th : Turned unsettled with some showery rain at times to 28th but not large amounts, some sunny intervals, and fairly warm

Hobart, Tasmania

June - First month of winter

A mild, dry and largely settled start to winter with no low or mid altitude snow event. The seventh successive month with above-average temperature and below-average rainfall. Hobart has only had 1 cooler than average month since spring 2011 ( mean 1981-2010 comparison ).

Average maximum:  13.3 ( +0.9 )

Average minimum:  6.4 ( +1.1 )

Rainfall:  21mm ( average 53mm )

Rain days ( +1mm ):  7/from 14

An extensive area of high pressure was the dominant feature for the first three weeks, but weak fronts crossing at 2 or 3 day intervals brought a shower or two, or a little drizzle. Cold and frosty during the 9th/10th, with morning fog, then tending milder for the rest of the month. From the 23rd winds were predominantly NW-SW,  as active fronts and low pressure moved NE'ward into the SE corner of the country ( but to Tasmania's west ). A colder change finally ended the month - but not significantly cold or wet, with snow settling no lower than about 700m on the mountain range.

Extremes in daily temperature for June ( Records since 1882 ):

Highest maximum:  17.4...27th ( Record 20.6 in 1907 )

Lowest maximum:  9.0...9th ( Record 4.3 in 1985 )

Highest minimum:  9.6...4th ( Record 14.4 in 1957 )

Lowest minimum:  1.2...9th ( Record -2.8 in 1972 )
