The inventor and entrepreneur Elon Musk has shared video footage of the moment his rocket crashed into a floating spaceport.

The Falcon 9 rocket was on its way back from delivering Christmas presents and supplies to astronauts at the International Space Station.

Mr Musk, who is CEO of SpaceX, a company which manufactures and launches rockets and spacecraft, described the crash landing as "close but no cigar".

We should of course note that the original mission was a success, this is an attempt to reuse and cut costs in what is now a booming sector.

Not only a 'booming sector' but essential if we are to see 'space tourism' and the innovations this will bring to space travel.

On the subject of Elon Musk i thought it worth noting that his next project is to create a satellite internet for the globe and eventually to Mars.

Good news for Netweather then... Will it snow in Martian Carslile? The Martian Winter is over!  :yahoo:

SpaceX has the ~$80m contract to take up TESS in 2017 which like Kepler will identify planets except that it's looking at 500,000 stars closest to Earth rather than Kepler which looked at one bit of the sky to a depth of 3000 light years.
