Nice squall line developing http://www.raintoday.co.uk/

A band of heavy and possibly thundery rain is forecast to pass through later today. Behind this will be polar maritime air with the risk of heavy showers of a wintry mix for the first half of the week.

Keep an eye on the graphics after it passed over east london, a friends weather station just received gusts of 70mph in last 5 mins, is this "bit more than a storm" ?  , just looked out the window and the back end of that front has storm force gusts.

Saw an impressive rainbow this evening as the storm squall line went through. It was getting dark so orange skies to the west and a rainbow and lighning show to the east . My 2 year old daughter loved it and was full of questions . Was going to post at the time but was watching my team win the cup

Well there was a 20 minute spell of torrential rain ad strong winds, then that was it, I guess it's the best way to push through a front, a quick spell of rain with clear skies on either side.

Here it was about ten minutes of drizzle. That wind is perishing, though.

For anyone in the path of the rain cloud that has just crossed Milton Keynes:

The rain is falling as a blizzard at the back end of the cloud. Only lasts a few minutes though.

Apologies for the awful quality pic but it was just for proof.

Sky was a strange colour here at first, a bit yellowy. Didn't see any snow :(
