Looking quite active now over southern France currently, and then Spain this weekend

Spent two weeks in the Pyrenees in July 2013 and it was very thundery indeed.

The storms could often suddenly appear from out of nowhere, too, and very late in the day. I remember one day (Sun 14 July 2013) had featured only fair-weather Cu until around 1530 and I thought, no storms today - fine dry summer day. In the following half hour the Cu rapidly became Cb and I got thoroughly drenched while walking along one of the valleys between the mountains - was wooded, so not as drenched as I could have been, but even still.

Until recently I never thought of the Pyrenees as thundery but thinking about it, you've got hot southern European air colliding with cool Atlantic air, and high mountains - so all the ingredients are there.

So from Spain, we move to Greece, victim of the Omega block forming which is giving us this hot weather.

Looks like almost a metre of rain will fall in 24-48 hours in some spots, baked earth will lead to massive runoff and flash flooding.

Back in Greece, its started , and another 48 hours to come....possibly followed by a medicane!!
