This is something I've never understood the anger towards. We're happy to call them "small" or "large" tornadoes, right? Although the example with the Birmingham tornado is crazy, then again, it's the Daily Mail - a picture book for morons!

Tornadoes are like tee-shirts: they come in a variety of sizes - small, medium, large and extra-large - but not mini.:D

I actually find the UK press has got a lot better in recent years.  In my experience the NZ press tends be the worst culprit at prefixing tornado with mini for no logical reason (ie yesterday), though they don't usually refer to mini showers, mini gales or even mini thunderstorms .....
