stayed out until midnight... nowt, but i couldnt see the horizon from my back garden.

3.30 am .... nowt, lol..

I`ll bring a set of ladders around for you mate

A low but very bright display this morning from mby....started around 2.40am to our NNE at only 5°- 8° altitude

couple of snaps and a time-lapse

Quick drifting NLC`s moved to due North in less than an hour....having migrated from Europe where they were viewed, and posted, earlier on in the evening

I`ll certainly be using this early ' heads up' in future

Hmph.

I thought last night was a definite done deal in terms of producing something. All the reports coming in from Europe, even as far South as Ukraine, I figured it was only a matter of time before starting to see stuff in the UK. I waited and waited but nothing. I eventually went to bed about 1am and set my alarm for 2:30am to have a quick peek but by then the weather had become far too cloudy. In any event, it seems as though the display didn't quite live up to expectations here in comparison with our European neighbours (or perhaps they are just better at camera trickery ).

Speaking of which... I was speaking to a friend online late last night and suggested he goes and takes a look North. He managed to capture this:

Credits go to him of course, taken in Southern Sweden. He had never seen (or even really heard of) them before. Yet he casually just walks to his window and gets that on first try. Git.

I stayed awake until 01:20...woke up to bad news. (Yet again all the action was between 02:00 and 04:00)

Just to my West, East and directly over my head.

Will try again tonight - does not help when you have a 17 months old son or work during the day - usually knackered by 21:00!

Shall we start a club Rob? We could call it the 'NOTcilucent Cloud Watchers' or something...

Looking through the Facebook group link Arnie posted, this particular post caught my attention:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/120898778545736/permalink/395495084419436/

There are some interesting colours in these images. One image has the clouds having an unmistakably red edge. This looks a lot more like what I expect to see from how the tweet I shared before described them. Not drawing any conclusions from this but thought it was worth the share, if nothing else other than they are some cool looking images.

Latest AIM sat image for Sunday 14th July...

Shows Sunday`s sightings off well.... and to an extent last nights East of the country`s sightings

@Cal5  As well as some cool images which are all informative (the link you shared on here went down well on that page..and helped to anwser a few of the questions being asked about coloured NLC`s)

...It`s also a great early warning for the UK....any reports for central Europe, will because of the natural drift of the NLC clouds, appear over our shores (cloud permitting of course)

It looks to me  that the mass of clouds around the pole are holding steady....so i`m expecting a few more chances for sightings from this season

I personally would be over the moon if i could give a 'heads up' to both you and Rob for a sighting

No reports of any NLC`s from Facebook or visible on the Europen cams...most of Europe seems to be under cloud atm...the Midlands might have a restbite from the clouds shortly... according to infrared on Netweather radar ( the only radar worth concidering)....could be an early night

Stuff likely to be out there this evening if you are lucky enough to not be in cloud cover.

Another one courtesy of my Swedish friend:

As for me, think I am going to call it a night and go to bed a bitter man due to all these clouds I am under.

Just as i was calling it a day 2.55am...a big iridescent cloud started to shine through the local cloud, to our NNE

At around 10°- 12° altitude, they shone for around 10 mins.....not the prettiest, but worth recording

Just a heads up concerning the AIM sat images from NASA

"News! NASA's AIM spacecraft, launched in 2007 to study noctilucent clouds (NLCs), suffered a minor anomaly this week. Members of the science team are optimistic that normal operations will be restored soon. Meanwhile, there may be a gap in Spaceweather.com's "Daily Daisy" coverage of NLCs around the north pole."

Maybe a chance to slip into Thunderstorm mode

Yep nearing the end of the NLC season now and true night is slowly pushing N across the UK over the next week or two. It arrives here overnight 27th/28th July.

Somehow, it looks as though it remained mostly clear throughout the whole of last night around these parts. Using the "Visit London webcam method" though, no NLC's to be seen at any hour. Those that were clouded out don't need to be disheartened by the looks of it, as there was nothing on offer.
