Flash Weather Alert

Category: Level 3 Warning

Weather type: Heavy Rain & Strong Winds

Affecting: The whole UK, but most particularly the west and north, with central and western Scotland, Northern Ireland, NW England, Wales and the West Country being most affected.

Date Valid For: 20:00 Sunday 12th September - 06:00 Monday 13th September 2004

Time Of Issue: 8.30 Sunday 12th September 2004.

A deep Atlantic depression is currently bringing a very potent frontal system north-east across the UK, with some extremely heavy and persistent rain, particularly to the west of high ground.

Winds are likely to exceed 50mph in exposed areas and there is a risk of flash floods in western Britain. Driving conditions will be very hazardous with spray and strong winds creating problems.

Confidence Level: 80%
