Alright folks, here's a new thread for the latest discussion on COVID-19. Just a few points:

1. Keep away from politics as best you can. We all have political opinions, we all think someones screwing the response up.  Making this about politics will only lead to political arguments and derail things.
2. Keep it serious. It isn't really the time for joking now. This is officially a pandemic and is likely to get worse before it gets better. Some of us may already know people infected or those who have suffered due to containment and delay efforts. Think of them before you make light of the situation.
3. Keep it on topic. There are plenty of threads for all kinds of discussion, not only on netweather, but across the internet. Keep this thread focused on the topic at hand.

UK up 134 cases, Scotland increases 24 new cases, don't know the breakdown of the rest.

Situation across Europe is going downhill quite dramatically now, especially in Spain. Many countries ow with triple digit increases.

UPDATE on coronavirus (#COVID19) testing in the UK: As of 9am 12 March 2020, a total of 29,764 people have been tested: 29,174 negative 590 positive 8 patients who tested positive for coronavirus have sadly died.

The digital dashboard will be updated later today.

Obviously not good but after seeing Scotland's figures first, I was actually expecting a lot worse.  Quite surprised actually.

The Netherlands have banned events with more than 100 people. Urging people to work from home if possible.

I feel the same. Especially seeing as the tests completed is gradually going up too. So I think it could of been a lot worse.

So 5.9% tests are coming back positive (the highest to date).

Yesterday (previous highest) was 4.2% positives.

Trump said Monday that the “fake news media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything to inflame the coronavirus situation.”

I mean, he's correct, but he needs to have that conversation with his boss.

I think they said 10,000, but there is probably a lag to get through first. Hopefully tomorrow we should be seeing an increase in testing rates.

Clearly a lot more than the UK at least initially unless our infection rate was several times worse than Wuhan .

Yes, but that isnt going to happen over night....and they said they would ramp up to that figure...........jeez, everything is a conspiracy these days. Whats the point in believing anything really eh?

The NHS will increase testing up to 10,000 per day though it will take a bit of time to implement, and we have a 24-hour lag with updates
