The bright planets on view

Took this pic of Jupiter and Saturn the other night

Managed it, although it was very cloudy when I arrived at 4:30, moon appeared by 5pm and planets, hoorah

Lucky there was a gap in the shower clouds, it looked really spectacular

Hi all, loving your photos.  Well done.

We tried tonight, with a tripod and varying seconds of exposure but they all showed

movement.  How do counter that ?

Would it be possible for someone to let me know what part of the sky to look at ...north or south etc...

Look towards SW, once dusk really sets in, you can't mistake them. They are low down though.

Amazing to see both Jupiter and Saturn in the same field of view a telescope.

Sky was clear tonight for a change so went for a walk and managed to catch them after dusk. Separated by only a fingernail's width or so. Jupiter is easier to spot but Saturn is fairly easy to see with the naked eye just above Jupiter as long as you are away from bright lights.

Could still see them clearly until 5:45 although they start to get quite low in the sky around then. Best viewing straight after sunset.

Tomorrow looks like it will be rainy and cloudy so probably the closest I will get to see them in my lifetime. In a way though they were probably more impressive this summer when they were both really bright and stood out in the night sky even though they were much further apart.

Jupiter and Saturn will be aligned by December 21st and the closest for 400 years. Viewing this great event of the giant gas planets in the early evening sky is at the mercy of the UK weather.

I've been heading out at 4:30 til about 5pm, but it's rural here 

Weather today is most frustrating but it was clear and cold yesterday 

Canon powershot (point and shoot), tripod    800 or 1600exposure
