The summer of 1933 was generally a hot dry one for most parts.

The August Bank Holiday of 1933 was a scorcher, the bank holiday being the first weekend of August.

That was a warm thundery month. Funny enough the Whit Bank Holiday which fell in June that year was one of the hottest Whit Bank Holidays on record.

So very similar to the hot August bank holiday of 2019, I guess (although this was of course later in the month)?

Yes, never remembered a hot august bank Holiday in all memory (I can remember back to about 1990) then 2 come along at once (2017,2019).  Hopefully this year will be as well as was at festivals both of those years and will be again this year.. a good omen perhaps?
