The Jet Stream has been stuck in its current position as far north as Greenland since about August with very little fluctuation or sign of it moving south. In winter it should be down over France blocking warm high pressure from Africa and allowing in cold air from Siberia and cool wet low pressure air from the Atlantic. Instead it’s allowing warm air from Africa over Britain.

As a result this  autumn has been very dry in the south west and mild. Today 29/12 it’s reached 17°C!

Is there any reason why the Jet Stream has got stuck? El Niño or El Niña? There seems to be little hope of it moving much at all over the next few months. Will that mean droughts and a very long hot summer next year?
