Storm Agnes set to bring midweek heavy rain and gales
The UK Met Office has named a midweek low, Storm Agnes. This is the first named storm of this autumn and has the potential to bring wild conditions with impactful winds, heavy rain and the risk of flooding. Read the full update here
Stormy spell likely mid-week as the Atlantic starts to stir
It's looking more and more likely that we could see a 'named' storm arrive on Wednesday, bringing severe gales across the west and gales elsewhere along with a spell of heavy rain. Breezy with some rain or showers for many before then. Read the full update here
Autumnal and often unsettled weather to continue into next week
The hot start to September is now a distant memory, as more typically Autumnal weather has taken hold, with further spells of wet and windy weather on the way. Read the full update here
Question
Earthshine
Hi all,
I'm sorry for the very specific question, I've been researching how actually generate a linear tangent model from a ray-tracing algorithm. The papers I've read so far haven't been particularly clear how this is done. The formulation of using a tangent model and gradient descent methods is described here: https://www.ecmwf.int/sites/default/files/elibrary/2018/18542-tangent-linear-and-adjoint-models-data-assimilation.pdf
If anyone is in the field of GNSS radio-occultation or other propagation-based methods I'd greatly appreciate any guidance!
