The current swathe of flooding in Pakistan is far worse than the usual annual problems.

Whole towns have disappeared, the Pakistan/China highway has been completely washed away and many lives have already been lost.

The authorities are being widely criticised for their lack of action.

'A monsoon on steroids'
Officials estimate that more than 33 million Pakistanis - one in seven people - have been affected by the flooding.
The scale of this disaster is truly shocking.  Poor souls.

Pakistan's planning minister says estimates suggest the floods have caused at least $10bn (£8.5bn) of damage, and many people face serious food shortages. The country was already suffering from an economic crisis.

Vaste swathes of rich agricultural land have been devastated and livestock lost in this year's monsoon,

damaging food supplies and sending prices soaring.
