Surprising how  people have forgot this one only last year back in febuary..

The average person you talk to says last time we had a cold spell was The beast from the east..

This was a very potent cold spell which gave snow and some drifting..

Also january 30th gave a blizzard confined to hills though..4 inches of snow..

The bitterly cold S easterly at the end..its no wonder it was so cold..

I remember so vividly watching the model output at the time. Around the 8th-11th, the consensus for a while was that the Scandinavian high would reassert itself and give another, more intense cold push into the second-half of February 2021. Many people, including myself, were wondering if this was shaping up to be the coldest February since 1986. However, I think the sheer amount of energy exerted from the historic cold spell across America just tipped the scales too much, then it ended up all being shunted too far south and what became a cold block quickly became a very mild block and the second-half of February I think was the warmest on record. The sheer flip from cold to mild in the models was almost quite heartbreaking for a coldie. I imagine that's what it felt like with That ECM Run...

Aye, not my favourite spell! mostly wet snow, and the breakdown on 14th was with a whimper, like this one will be

Good spell up here. Over a foot of snow down to sea level from convective showers from the North sea. Pic is view from my bedroom window.
Higher areas inland already had deep snow cover from the heavy late December and January precipitation that for us near the coast was mostly cold rain and sleet.
