1987 was an interesting one on the other side of the Atlantic, particularly Canada. Exceptionally above normal temperatures frequented their shores throughout 1987, especially during the first half of the year. The winter of 1986/1987 is still one of their warmest winters on record as a whole. The persistence of above average temperatures would have been especially notable at the time.

The 1980s warming trend in the USA *was* evident at this time but there were still a good number of brutal winters/snaps throughout the decade though. 1987 does seem to be the year where things get more noticeable though. Also the deadly Greece heatwave in July.
