Egypt rainfall

We have a rare rain event in Egypt.

Just rained in Hurghada,

Must be incredibly rare to see a radar image of Egypt like this in late May.

Also a few spots of rain fell in Luxor while it was 41C yesterday.

I think that would be unusual at any time of the year!

I wonder what caused that? The pressure charts don't really give anything away at this time of the year as its generally quite slack. I'm surprised there's enough moisture around to cause rain to bubble up like that.

Upper low to the north west. That rain is what amounts to the cold front.

Would imagine that normally the monsoon low over tropical Africa will be met by easterlies over Egypt essentially preventing tropical moisture heading north and drawing a flow from Arabia. With the upper low just to the north of the country your getting tropical moisture heading north and relatively cooler air dropping south from the north west. Thus, a spark.
